Facebook Addiction, Presidential Content and More: Sunday News

Here’s your weekly chance to catch up on some digital developments that might help you in your media gig this coming week.

SCHEDULE YOUR BRAND UPDATES

Facebook has a new tool that hasn’t received much publicity yet.  For the last few days, you’ve been able to schedule your Facebook status updates in advance … without using a third party program like HootSuite.  It’s not perfect yet, as you’ll learn in Facebook’s New Scheduling Feature: 5 Design Missteps.  However, these scheduled posts have at least two big advantages over similar posts you might schedule using another program.  For one thing, they get seen by more people than if they’re not originally posted through Facebook.  For another, Facebook keeps a running total of the number of impressions your scheduled posts get.

CONTENT MARKETING IDEAS FROM THE PREZ

Lots of media brands are concerned about creating more and more content, when they’re not doing a particularly strong job of sharing the content they already have.  5 Content Marketing Lessons From Obama illustrates some solid ideas for how to get the most out of your content marketing efforts.

IS YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA WORKING FOR YOU?

Take any community college Business Management 101 class, and you’ll learn that one key element of being a good manager is to check the work your subordinates do!  So … how’s that social media workin’ for ya these days?  Here’s an article that may help you to evaluate how you’re doing.  5 Simple Metrics to Track Your Social Media Efforts has some good ideas; just doing one of them will help you fine-tune what you’re doing.

Also, if you check out DIY Social Media Audit, you can download their ebook and get more in-depth about what you’re doing.

GET INSPIRED ALL OVER AGAIN

If you feel that your digital efforts are falling into that same-ol’-same-ol’ rut, check out Social Media Managers: Get Your Inspiration Back.  Remember, if you’re boring yourself, you’re probably not thrilling your target audience, either.

SUPER-ADDICTIVE STUFF

They say that the first step is admitting you have a problem.  How Bad Is Your Facebook Addiction Disorder? shows that “alcohol, tobacco, sleep and sex may all be easier to resist than Facebook.”
